Being able to see out your front windscreen is ESSENTIAL to being able to drive safely. Your wiper blades play a significant role in keeping you safe, especially during the rain (which we have a lot of here in the UK!). So, here are six tell-tale signs that you need to replace those windscreen wipers.
The metal part of your wipers can become bent or damaged for all sorts of reasons. If the frame or blade is bent, it cannot make contact with your windscreen properly. Even when your blades seem to be functioning fine, they won’t be soon enough.
When the rain is pouring (as it normally is in the UK), it’s obvious when your wipers stop reaching certain parts of the windscreen. If the blades cannot meet the corners or some spot in the middle, you need to replace them.
Before the temperature drops, getting new wipers that have been specially designed for winter is a good idea. The ice and snow in winter can damage regular wiper blades much faster than those designed to withstand cold temperatures and frozen windscreens.
Take a closer look at your windscreen wipers. Is the rubber one smooth piece, or can you see cracks, splits or broken off parts in places? If you see any imperfections in the rubber, you need wiper blade replacements.
Streaks on your windscreen caused by wipers is an obvious sign. But if you notice a consistent film of dirt on your windshield, even after you’ve sprayed fluid to clean it off, the wipers are dirty and need to be replaced.
If you’re experiencing that dreadful noise when your wipers drag across the glass, this means they need to go. Not only is it irritating, it means the wiper blades aren’t cleaning your windscreen properly. This is due to them only being in contact with the windscreen some of the time.
Your windscreen wipers are essential for safe driving, as they can improve or inhibit road visibility. They’re one of the easiest parts of a car to maintain! Everything you need to know about length and type of blades needed can be found in the car manual.
